EXPERT's OPINIONS
IN SUPPORT OF THE 26TH AMENDMENT
Rebecca Mikulin is in support of the 26th Amendment. She agrees with most of the ideas that we do. 18 year olds should be heard and more will participate in the military. President Eisenhower believed in such an amendment where 18 to 21 year olds could vote. If 18 year olds could fight in the military, then they should be given the responsibilities and duties that older citizens have. |
AGAINST THE 26TH AMENDMENT
Republicans, such as Ann Coulter, believe that the 26th Amendment should be repealed. She thinks that "Eighteen- to 26-year-olds don't have property, spouses, children or massive tax bills." Therefore, she argued that 18 to 26 year olds should not vote. |
Both of these arguments are valid, however, Mikulin has a better argument because the 18 year olds vote will help U.S. economy. Ann Coulter says young voters can not be trusted if they do not have property or spouses, yet they can be trusted defending our country. Eisenhower believed young Americans should be allowed to vote if they are going to defend our country. These are the factors that make the 26th Amendment extremely important, and the amendment is a necessary right to all of us.
