Process paper
How we chose this topic:
Ever since the presidential election in 2012, we have wanted to learn more about the election process. When our teacher told us we will be doing a history fair project, we decided on the 26th Amendment as our topic because it relates to voting rights of young people. The 26th Amendment was in important in allowing 18 year olds the right to vote.
How we conducted our research:
We conducted our research by printing primary and secondary sources that relate to the 26th Amendment. We highlighted the important details so that we can use the information in our project. Then, we chose three reasons why the 26th Amendment was important which we used to write our thesis statement. We analyzed the information from our research and created a website on the 26th Amendment.
How we created and developed our website:
We created our website using a program called Weebly. Weebly allows you to create tabs, insert pictures, and insert links. Each of the reasons from our thesis was dedicated to one tab. We also included an opinion tab with expert's opinions on our topic. In each tab, we have pictures, text, and sometimes links to videos. There is also a bibliography tab to document the sources for our research. Once the website was completed, we published it, gave it a name, and opened it to public viewing.
How our project relates to the History Fair Theme of Rights and Responsibilities:
The 26th Amendment is a right and responsibility for many reasons. First, it allowed a more diverse vote. Next, it made 18 year olds eager to join the military because they could vote. Lastly, it created interest in elections and government for young people. If the United States had not created the 26th Amendment then there would be less 18 year olds in the military and less interest in politics from young people.
